Collections Specialist

Role: The Collections Specialist is responsible for professionally and compassionately managing delinquent loan and member accounts and recovering past-due amounts while preserving the member relationship. This role requires excellent communication skills and attention to regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly reports to identify past due and delinquent accounts
- Regularly update reports to reflect current standings on accounts and report to management
- Contact members by phone, email, text, and mail to discuss payment options
- Establish and follow up on repayment plans according to credit union policies
- Document all collection activity accurately and promptly in the core system
- Negotiate payment arrangements or settlements within authorized limits
- Adhere to federal and state collection laws (FDCPA, Iowa Code and NCUA guidelines)
- Ensure member communications are professional, non-coercive and properly documented
- Recommend accounts for repossession, charge-off, legal action, or third-party collection after exhausting internal recovery efforts
- Coordinate with repossession vendors, attorneys or agencies as needed
- Support audits and regulatory reviews by providing requested documentation
- Market assets that were recovered and collect funds from the sale
- Stay informed with collections laws, bankruptcy procedures and repossession rules
- Propose process improvements to increase recovery while enhancing member experience
- Participate in training sessions and compliance trainings as required
Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written Communication
- Empathy and conflict resolution
- Strong organization and time management
- Familiarity with collection laws and credit bureau practices
- Proficiency in core banking systems, Microsoft Office and Excel

Schedule: Full-Time
- Monday to Friday, rotating Saturdays
