Mission Statement:
To help cats, their caregivers, and communities in Hamilton County through spay/neuter programs and local adoption options.
Hamilton County Animal AdvoCATes is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity, incorporated in the State of Iowa, and licensed through the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship. We receive no federal, state, county, or city government funding and rely solely on donations.
We are licensed to serve only Hamilton County with our TNR services, CatSNAP and surrenders. We can adopt out to anyone regardless of their location, if they are willing to travel to us.
In early 2017, two of our founding board members were made aware of a low-income gentleman that had more cats than he could care for, mostly feral (unsocialized). Borrowing a couple of traps and working with a low-cost vet clinic in Ogden, within two months, a total of 24 cats and kittens were spayed/neutered and vaccinated. Two adults and nine kittens found new indoor homes; nine feral cats found new barn homes; and four adults were returned to the owner. Before this project was complete, another gentleman with too many cats contacted us. He had a total of 21. All were spayed/neutered and vaccinated. Nine kittens were adopted out and 12 were returned.
Seeing the great need for services, Hamilton County Animal AdvoCATes was organized and incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit animal welfare organization.
In 2017, our first year, 88 cats were spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and returned or adopted. In 2021, that number more than tripled to 274. In fall of 2022, The Cat Hut opened in Webster City to facilitate our growing adoption program and help fund our mission with pet-related retail. In 2024, the total was over 441 through all three programs: TNR, CatSNAP (Cat Spay/Neuter Assistance Program), and Adoptions. For the past four years, we have worked almost exclusively with the Webster City Veterinary Clinic for surgeries and medical care.
