Exploring the Sketchbook: Contour Drawing + Watercolor

Tuesday, May 14, 2024 (5:30 PM - 7:30 PM) (CDT)

Description

Or maybe you like to draw, but want to improve your abilities? Or maybe you want to fill your sketchbook with interesting and colorful images and are looking for a new style? In this workshop we will learn contour drawing and add color to those drawings with watercolor. Contour drawing is one of the first drawing styles many beginning art students learn in order to see the subject for what it is and not what our brain sees. Our left brain tells us - “Oh that is a pencil, I’ll draw a pencil.” but it doesn’t actually see the pencil we are looking at. The left brain has a memorized, general idea of what a pencil is, but it does not help us see or draw the pencil we have in front of us with all of its unique details. Contour drawing helps us see the subject in front of us by moving our thinking from our left brain to our right brain. During this 2-hour workshop, we will learn three different types of contour drawing and then add color to those drawings with watercolor. Each person will receive a handbound sketchbook made by Jill to use for the class. The following will be supplied to use for the class, but if you have your own you’d like to bring please feel free to bring them: *Fine liners (waterproof, archival pens for drawing) *Watercolor paints *Paint brushes *White gel pens . $20 per student.
