New Produce Project for Kids Launches at Webster City Market Nights
Sponsored by Hamilton County Farm Bureau
A meaningful new addition is taking root at Webster City Market Nights this summer — one that blends fresh food, youth engagement, and community support. The Youth Produce Project, sponsored by the Hamilton County Farm Bureau, is now live and aims to provide healthy, locally grown produce to children and youth under 18 attending Market Nights each Thursday evening from 5:30-7:30 in downtown Webster City. The Hamilton County Farm Bureau booth will be located near the Webster City Area Chamber office and the Availa Bank Plaza green space each week.
As part of the program, kids and teens under 18 years of age are invited to stop by the Hamilton County Farm Bureau table during Market Nights. There, they’ll complete a short, fun activity and receive a $1 Produce Program Buck — a special voucher they can redeem for fresh fruits and vegetables from participating vendors at the market. Limit of 100 Produce Program Bucks given out each week to purchase produce or honey.
This new effort is not only educational and interactive but also addresses a deeper need in the community.
The Produce Project is yet another piece of the puzzle in addressing food insecurity for children during the summer months — a time when access to healthy meals can be limited once school is out. By giving young people, the means to choose their own fresh produce, the program encourages healthy habits, boosts access to nutritious food and brings more traffic and support to local growers and vendors.
"Both Farm Bureau Financial Services- Greg Littlejohn Agency and Hamilton County Farm Bureau Federation are glad to be participating in Market Nights and are grateful for the opportunity to be sharing produce vouchers that participants can use at local growers’ booths to help purchase locally grown produce," explained Webster City area Farm Bureau agent, Greg Littlejohn. "We have more activities planned for the rest of Market Nights, come and see us!"
“This is exactly the kind of partnership that makes Webster City Market Nights so special,” said Robin Streigle, Webster City Area Chamber office and event support. “We’re connecting agriculture, youth education, nutrition, and local business — all in one fun, community-centered event.”
The Produce Project runs every Thursday night during Market Nights and will continue through the summer season.
Market Nights are held weekly in downtown Webster City, bringing together local vendors, food trucks, live music, themed activities, and now — thanks to the Produce Project — a new opportunity to invest in the health of our youth.
