Spring Sip & Shop: A Look Back

Last Updated 4/29/2025Posted in Sip & Shop: A Look Back

Webster City retailers pulled out all the stops for the Spring Sip & Shop event this past Saturday, April 26th.

The day kicked off at the Webster City Church of Christ with a welcome reception featuring charcuterie, mock-mimosas, and a guided painting project led by Chamber Ambassador Renee McDonald, sponsored by Mediacom. Guests enjoyed a spread of baked goods, blueberry scones, pecan rolls, fresh fruit, sausage, bacon, and hard-boiled eggs before hitting the shops.

Retailers opened their doors at 10AM, with many extending hours until 3PM, showcasing all the fresh styles for spring.

  • Country Twist Boutique featured new mineral-wash denim jackets in bright, fun colors. Owner Peggy Joslin treated shoppers to ice-cold lemonade and frosted sugar cookies from Katie’s Ultimate Sweets.

  • Osweiler’s Fashions brought the latest looks to life with two live models, who strolled the store showing off outfit ideas, color-matching tips, and fit advice, all while assisting shoppers.

“It was fun, and people really seemed to enjoy the informal modeling. People had a good time!” — Kathy Birkestrand

Gilbert Jewelers and Interior Spaces also extended their shopping hours and offered cocktail refreshments and in-store specials to guests.

The Cat Hut, Webster City's local feline rescue organization, served Pink Panther mocktails (which tasted like cotton candy!) and offered adoption specials, complete with kitty-care kits that include food, litter, and toys — available while supplies last.

In nearby Stanhope, Polly’s Garden Center celebrated opening weekend with sunny planting weather, coinciding perfectly with Sip N Shop. Owner Polly Hayes announced upcoming workshops, including a teacup succulent workshop and a flower-coloring class in partnership with Scentsy by Brandy Dilley. Check Polly’s Garden Center's member directory page at visitwebstercityiowa.com for more information.

Legacy Learning Boone River Valley and Produce Station Pottery hosted guests with mug cakes and a peek inside their new makerspace, which now features artisan-made gifts like socks, backpacks, and coin purses.
The nonprofit arts center also announced two upcoming events:

  • Mother’s Day Card-Making Workshop (Saturday, May 3rd)

  • Art Social: May Day Basket Workshop (Thursday, May 8th)

Wildcat Distilling Co. offered cocktail demonstrations featuring two new creations: the Espresso Martini and Just Desserts, both crafted with their locally produced spirits milled, tilled, and distilled right here in the Webster City area.  The demonstration detailed behind-the-scenes knowledge of the process and the Wildcat Distilling Co product line, including four whiskey variations and two bourbons.

La Perla Jarocha Restaurant offered a cozy place for attendees to retreat for a lunch break with their authentic Mexican dishes. A local favorite includes their street taco dishes with fresh red onions and cilantro.

But the day wasn't all shopping!

  • In honor of Earth Day, Kendall Young Library continued their tradition of giving away free trees to patrons.

  • The Webster City Women’s Club proudly showed off the newly remodeled kitchen at the Jane Young House during an open house. The opening exhibits were a nod to the Webster Theater, the highly anticipated reopening is this week on Thursday, May 1st.

  • Meanwhile, treasure hunters enjoyed the semi-annual thrift sale at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, a fundraiser favorite.
