The Patient Care Tech (PCT) is responsible for a variety of tasks and services to assist in the provision of care and comfort for patient under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. The PCT is responsible to greet and register patients, answer incoming phone calls, turn over rooms, coordinate patient transfer activities, assist with direct patient care, record documentation in the electronic medical record and ensure efficient patient flow.
Essential Functions:
- Maintains confidentiality of all hospital matters.
- Completes all required Competencies.
- Supports staffing/scheduling needs of the departments.
- Works weekends and holidays as scheduled.
Patient Care
- Perform specific tasks as directed by the RN and other healthcare team members per competency education and licensure. Examples include, but are not limited to: specimen collection, electrocardiogram, obtain vital signs, initiate oxygen per provider order, patient ambulation, patient lifts, perform point-of-care testing (ie. blood glucose, urine hcg, strep screen).
- Consult and seek guidance from RN and/or other healthcare team members, as appropriate and when completing new or unfamiliar tasks or duties.
- Obtain, record and/or accurately enter data into the medical record. Promptly complete documentation to ensure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
- Verbally present factual, concise, and timely information and/or patient care data to the RN, the healthcare team, patients and/or family members in a professional manner.
- Assist with CPR and Trauma patient care when needed.
- Demonstrate knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections, report potential or actual concerns immediately.
Patient Access
- Responsible for answering and transferring incoming phone calls, greeting and directing patients and visitors to their destination.
- Register ED and Med Surg patients and specified outpatients, ensure proper paperwork is signed and distributed. All registrations must be completed accurately to ensure timely billing.
- Complete insurance verification in the medical record.
- Maintains hospital/ ED Logbook including documentation of ambulance calls, on call staff requests, etc.
- Assist with security by monitoring security cameras and patient entrances
- Responsible for accurate completion of paperwork for patient transfers or admissions/ discharges
- Maintain emergency communication system database (I AM Responding) by generating messages as directed by House Supervisor or Hospital Leadership
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Three 12 hour shifts, 6:30pm-7am, every other holiday and weekend. Compensation commensurate with experience.
Requirements
- Completion of an Emergency Medical Technician, Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant Course
- Possess appropriate state certification or licensure for professional role
- Medical terminology desired.
- Computer experience preferred proficient with email, Microsoft Office, Electronic Health Record.
- Must be able to speak, read, comprehend and write fluent English.
- Must complete BLS class in 3 months of employment.
- Must take Telemetry monitoring class within one year of employment.
- Completion of MOAB training within 12 months of employment.
Must be able to meet the physical requirements as outlined in the Job Requirements document.
This position requires successful completion of a Physical Capacity Profile screening.
