A clinically competent, registered nurse who assumes responsibility and accountability to the care of patients neonate through geriatric in the Emergency Department through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The nurse provides care to these patients with therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/ instrumentation, and other health care team members. Serves as a patient advocate and a liaison between ancillary departments, physicians, and community resources. The nurse is responsible for the direction of personnel assigned as needed.
- Maintains confidentiality of all hospital matters. This includes the confidentiality of patients, co-workers and the Van Diest Medical Center organization.

- Adheres to Standard Precautions, Exposure Control Plan, Hospital Safety and Infection Control Policies.
- Performs efficiently in all situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate person(s), and documenting events. Able to prioritize care based on patient need, resources available and personnel.
- Demonstrates a sound knowledge base in the care of and decision making for designated patients ranging from neonate to geriatric.
- Seeks validation of knowledge base, skill level, and decision-making. Acts as a resource to or assists other nursing departments as needed.
- Provide medical control via radio, possibly in a physician designee role; in a professional manner.
- Serves as a role model, patient advocate, educator for patient and significant others, and hospital ambassador through effective and positive verbal and non-verbal communication.
- Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and unit(s) functioning. Strives to manage situation in a reduced risk manner. Follows EMTALA regulations.
- Meets and maintains all educational requirements as specified by job descriptions. Obtains enough trauma specific continuing education to maintain compliance with the hospitals trauma certification level by the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services.
- Participates in the orientation of new Emergency Department staff.
- Supports staffing scheduling needs of the department(s).
- Demonstrates ability to pass annual competency and skills training in the Emergency Department.
- Demonstrates adequate keyboarding and computer skills to proficiently utilize computer programs within the Emergency Department.
- Provides supervision to EMS in the Emergency Dept. setting.
- Directs work of RNs, LPNs, CNAs when assisting in Emergency Department
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
- Participates on nursing and/or hospital wide committees.
- Assist with special projects as assigned.
- Participates in community wide education and/or health screening.
- Any other lawful hospital / nursing duties, that fall within the Registered Nurses’ scope of practice, as assigned by Nursing Management and/or Administration.

7:00pm - 7:30am three days a week, and every 3rd holiday.
Wage commensurate with experience.
Requirements
- Possesses a current license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Iowa Board of Nursing. Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- A minimum of one-year nursing experience, Emergency Department or Critical Care experience preferred.
- BLS certification prior to the end of orientation and/or working independently.
- ACLS certification within 6 months and prior to working independently.
- TNCC and PALS certification within 1 year of employment
- Basic knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias
- Mandatory dependent adult & child abuse education certification.
- MOAB/ De-escalation training within the first six months of hire when available
- Strong interpersonal relationship skills: Works closely with patients, families, peers, supervisors, physicians, and other health team members.
- Strong communication skills with and on behalf of patients, and with other staff members.
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements as outlined in the Job Requirements document.
- This position requires successful completion of a Physical Capacity Profile screening.
