Skillet Creek Indian Mounds Night Hike

Join us for a night hike to the Skillet Creek Indian Mounds as we walk through the autumn leaves. Come and enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of the night as we hike this moderately to difficult hiking path up the hillside. We will discuss the area history and observe the burial and ceremonial mounds of the Woodland Culture on the hill top. These mounds were built about 1,500 to 2,000 years ago. This program is for all ages of people who enjoy hiking at night. Feel free to bring a flashlight as red covers will be provided. There is a limited number of county flashlights and red covers to be provided for use. RSVP required by registering online. Questions contact John Laird at 515-297-0423 cell phone. To reach the area, follow Highway 175 west of Stratford about 4 miles. Just after crossing the bridge over the Des Moines River, turn right (north) onto River road. Then turn left onto Skillet Creek Road (left at Y intersection) Just go beyond the first curve will be a parking lot on the right. The area is signed from Highway of 175 at the end of the bridge.
